Beata Pankiewicz is a Polish born New York raised artist and art director/stylist. With her work in both these fields she calls attention to unconventional dualities.
Beata is inspired by pre and post photo shoot scenes that she has art directed and stylied for over a decade as Abc Carpet & Home/New York/art director and lead stylist. The realism of photo and film documentation is juxtaposed with the surrealism of props and products; man made mixed with nature made, raw and textured materials with the intricate and the whimsical. The making of the work often reveals marvelous mistakes, which the artist incorporates rather than corrects. Her visual language allows for layers of surprise and discovery both for her during her process and for the viewer alike. Curiosity leads in all her creative playgrounds.
Beata received her BFA from School of Visual Arts in New York where she studied under Jerry Saltz, Diana Cooper, Lynda Benglis, Alice Aycokc. Beata became part of Sunday Salons organized by Louise Bourgeois out of her Soho apartment in NY. She is the recipient of numerous awards and residencies including the Marie Walsh Sharpe Foundation Space Program, MOMA Artist Files Archive, the Drawing Center Viewing Program, and the Civitella Ranieri international residency nominee. Beata’s work has been shown in exhibitions in the US and her homeland.
